The drop-in softball program is sponsored by the City of Midland Parks and Recreation. Players range in age from 62 to 91 years old and get together Monday to Wednesday to practice hitting and fielding starting in May. George Rapp started the program in 1993. "Two days after I started retirement they guys at Parks and Rec asked me if I could run it," Rapp said. "I said 'yes' and I run the equipment down and get paid in 'thank yous'. The guys really are genuine and enjoy playing, of course I love participating too."
